THE
WILDEST JEWELRY DESIGNER IN THE WEST BRINGS COLLECTION
TO SCOTTSDALE
The newest collection of work by Kit Carson, the
“Wildest Jewelry Designer in the West”, premieres this
week at French Designer Jeweler in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Arizona native is a rebel jewelry designer with a
refined talent for metalsmithing and a flair for the
unexpected. Vivid childhood influences drive the themes
in his work depicting the southwest, cowboys, Art
Nouveau, desert animals, pirates, and the Day of the
Dead.

Carson’s transformations of gold, silver, and precious
stones into edgy and absurdly beautiful wearable art
defy the conventional image of Southwestern jewelry. “It
is the nostalgic freedom of the western landscape and a
return to a natural and simple life that I want to
capture in my art,” says Kit. Picture a pair of skull
and crossbones earrings meticulously smithed from
18-karat gold; a rainbow of precious stones tumbling
like desert river rocks over a hand engraved silver cuff
bracelet, or better yet a jewel encrusted gold and
silver “pirate” pendant fit for Captain Jack Sparrow or
his mortal counterpart, Johnny Depp. This is not your
mama’s turquoise bracelet and earrings.
Carson’s most ardent collectors include showbiz A-listers
Jack Nicholson, George Clooney, Clint Black and Elton
John. Actor Robin Williams describes his work as “Dr.
Seuss meets Rene Lalique at the High Noon Bar.” He is a
featured artist in the PBS Television special, “Craft in
America” and has exhibited his jewelry at the
prestigious Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, D.C.
About Kit Carson
Carson was born in 1950 on a dude ranch near Wickenburg
and raised by a family of artists. He attended the
University of Oregon where he studied engraving,
drawing, and sculpture. His hunger for adventure took
him across the Southwest and Europe before eventually
bringing him back to Arizona to work and live. He now
spends his days at his studio, Cactus Camp, designing
jewelry, glass and "Adjuncts de Art," sculpture,
furniture, lamps and toys created from recycled rusty
metal.
