innovative center for performance
arts training and education, is announcing its latest
roster of upcoming classes for the local fashion and
entertainment communities.

The academy,
which provides “real world” performance,
fashion, and media arts training for all ages,
is a one-of-a-kind center, offering a unique and
exciting blend of classes in such areas as:
“Choiceless Awareness Acting,” runway and print
modeling, fashion show production, fashion
styling, voice (singing), rap performance, vocal
performance, infomercial/spokesperson training,
talk show hosting, voice-overs, commercial
acting, public speaking, and news casting. |

Guest instructors
from L.A. and New York provide specialized
on-site “intensives” and workshops, and students
have many opportunities to perform, compete, and
practice what they learn. SWPA’s mission is to
prepare students for success both locally and in
major markets like Los Angeles and New York.
SWPA was founded by local fashion designer and
entrepreneur, Debra Davenport, and longtime
Hollywood actor, Kitty Stuart, who both
identified a significant void in local
performance and fashion training. “As working
professionals, we’re continually monitoring the
pulse of the fashion, arts and entertainment
communities here in Phoenix,” said Davenport.
“What we’ve observed is a lack of easy access to
the kind of unique training available in major
hubs like Los Angeles. Now people can study
specialized industry areas in a completely
supportive, creative and up-to-theminute
environment. We’ve developed an exceptional
variety of classes designed specifically to fill
this unmet need here in Phoenix.” |
 |
Both Davenport and Stuart
actively teach at SWPA’s studio, along with a highly
talented group of faculty
who are all working professionals.
Giving back to the community is a fundamental component
of the organization’s mission and vision. Free
acting and modeling classes for at-risk youth and
victims of domestic violence are being created to build
self esteem and communication skills. Courses will be
offered through various charitable and social service
organizations.
SWPA’s classes are held at 13637 North Tatum Boulevard,
Suite 8, in Phoenix (corner of Tatum and
Thunderbird). Classes fill quickly. For more
information and to register, please call Southwest
Performance Arts at (602) 334-1070 or e-mail iperform@southwestperformancearts.com.
