Sandia Soaps
by S. Bryant

On a recent shopping spree to the Albuquerque Whole Foods Market, I was instantaneously drawn to the isle of bath.  Oh my, the scents were heavenly, the choices too many, and the labels unique.  In addition to the name brands carried in the market, the isle flourished with "handmade" soaps of every variety and scent.  But overall I was inexplicably tempted by the scent of a bar of Sandia Soap's, Taos Sauna

Taos Sauna

As the label reads, "created in the valley where the Rio Grande flows by the majestic Sandia Mountains.  Cured in our enchanted high desert air.  A soap born of the serene Southwest."  Who could resist this?

Chris at Sandia Soaps

Says owner and soap-maker, Chris, "When I first breathed this scent in with the New Mexico air, all I could think of was stepping out of a sauna onto a snowcapped mountain in Taos." And he was so right.  I was instantly transported as well and he has done his job.  I could hardly put the bar down and in the long drive home the car carried the reminding scent of Taos, the Sandias and I that I love.  For the first time ever, I was taking it home.

Made with Eucalyptus essential oil, palm kernel, palm, olive and soybean oils.  This six ounce bar is larger than any standard bar of soap and I believe you will find that most "handmade" bars generally run in 4-5 ounce weights.  Oversized, though it will not fit in a travel soap case, just get out a kitchen knife and slice it in half.  You'll have one for home and one for the road and two for the price of one!  Emollient, sudsy and luxurious, this long-lasting bar will provide hours of wonderfully relaxing bath-time surrounding you with the intoxicating aroma of the southwest.

Visit Chris and his soap-making at www.sandiasoap.com and be sure to check out the multitude of equally enchanting scents he has created.  If only the Internet could do scratch and sniff!
