- CYI-250 Let Your Mat Be the Judge

Sometimes in yoga practice there are days where it’s
difficult to see any benefit. But at the end of any
practice, the mat is one of the best judges of all. The
way you roll up your mat will be a good indicator of how
you are feeling after your yoga.
Did you hurriedly roll it up, were there uneven ends?
This will likely indicate that you were unable to center
during that day’s practice or perhaps that you are in a
hurry, signaling the need to slow down, or are
distracted and unable to focus.
A nicely rolled mat with even ends bespeaks focus,
calmness, deliberate-ness and being centered, all which
you should have gained in that day’s practice.
If after you roll up your mat, you notice that it was
hurried and uneven, a good practice is to unroll it,
start over, and perform one last asana, the roll of
the mat. As a matter of fact, I always suggest to
new students to spend at least part of the first session
practicing with the mat, first things first, and to
incorporate this "roll of the mat," into the end of each
practice and it will always let you know how you did.
