Ezra Estes - Up and Coming Santa Fe Designer

Santa Fe designer Ezra Estes

Ezra Estes says he began his fashion career torturing his sister's dolls at about the young age of six. His paternal grandmother was a tailor and took notice. She asked Estes to spend time with her. Estes then learned much and was independently making tailored clothing about the time he left high school. Estes studied design and finished his BUS at Eastern New Mexico University. He then worked for Sherwin-Williams then the Gap Corporation and Robert R. Bailey in Santa Fe. Estes opened his studio at age twenty-seven.

In the summer of 2008, People Magazine led a professional photographer's clinic in Santa Fe.  Estes was chosen as a subject. In the Spring of 2009, People called Estes, asking for a custom tuxedo in the style of Helmut Lang/Yves St. Laurent "Le Smoking".  Estes flew to LA for the shot. The suit was made for People Magazine's "100 Most Beautiful People" Issue of May 2009 featuring Kirsten Wiig of Saturday Night Live. Estes has auditioned twice for "Project Runway", making the semi-final list of contestants. Estes will most likely interview again this fall.

Estes also decided to attend a couple of classes in the Fashion Design Department at Santa Fe Community College the fall of 2007. He liked it so much he attended in Spring 2008 as well. The design department head, Mechele Hesbrook asked Estes to teach sewing production for the fall of 2008, and Spring and Summer of 2009. Estes simultaneously took more fashion courses. He is currently teaching Production Sewing, the Design Lab and Fashion Illustration this Fall.

Here's a look at just a couple of Estes' designs:
