Sacramento Mountain Weavers
Nestled high in the
mountains of Cloudcroft, New Mexico, weavers Kelly
Stewart and Kenny Nix stay busy throughout the seasons
creating luxurious, one-of-a-kind woven pieces.
Though many of their creations are for the home, Stewart
and Nix also design and create wearable pieces like
these cozy clogs and coat.
 |
These 100%
Handcrafted, warm, and fuzzy clogs, are knitted,
and then felted. The process is actually called
fullering the wool. The natural
fiber wicks moisture away from your feet leaving
them warm, and toasty. As you wear them they
will shape to your feet, and remember their
shape.
They are sized from small, medium, to large, in
both ladies and men's sizes. They can be
custom ordered to your personal size, and color
preference. Embellishments may be added to
further make your clog; truly one-of-a-kind.

The clogs can be made in
various wools. 100% all natural alpaca wool (most
expensive) 100% sheep wool in various colors. 50% alpaca
and 50% sheep wool mix, which will achieve a color by
using the sheep wool, and alpaca together. Because of
genetic differences in the alpaca, the fibers respond
differently when felted. Some felt very tightly,
and some become furry.
All clogs are felted with a double sole, giving them
extra cushion. They come packaged in a vinyl bag with a
silk twill tie up which is very attractive for gift
giving.
Here are just a few color combinations they have used:
black alpaca and cherry pink wool; cherry pink and lime
green sheep wool, red and deep sea sheep wool; brick
clay and deep sea sheep wool.
The colors can be as vibrant, or as natural as you might
like.

This hand-woven
coat has been a work in progress for the past
five years. It took six weeks, and more than
one-hundred hours of weaving to weave the panels
in order assemble the coat, which Nix then
tailored into a garment.
The body is woven from raw cotton chenille with
hand-knitted collar and cuffs. Fully lined
with fabulous fabric and trimmed in leather.
Along with the one-hundred hours of weaving
there was also over seventy hours of
hand-tailoring. Their show case piece!
Stewart and Nix were featured textile artists
this summer at the Studio 54@70 Gallery in
Tularosa, New Mexico, during their Fabulous
Fiber Arts month. They have also shown their
work at the Albuquerque Arts & Crafts Fair, and
at The Ruidoso Art Festival as well.
They will be participating in the upcoming
Holly-Day Magic Art & Craft Show in Roswell, New
Mexico, Nov 20-21, 2009. To see more pieces
