Greetings and welcome to the October 2009 issue of
Southwest Flair Magazine!
Finally the weather is
cooling down, the days are crisp, pumpkins are coming
out, and it’s time to start bringing out the boots and
sweaters. Favorite month, favorite weather,
favorite clothes. Forever autumn, that's my motto.
I pulled out two
of my vintage leather jackets for this month,
one in particular that I love; a 1950s brown
suede fringe in real cowboy/wrangler style. Add to it a
black tank and Wranglers, a trip to the local
rodeo, and I have properly hailed in the autumn
season.
If you have any
vintage western or leather, you're already at
the top of the game. What is the item
most important in a closet for adding southwest
flair? Boots! To start, I have
chosen a new pair of brown faux studded
leather/suede side-zip boots. These work
great because they can go from casual to dress,
working equally well with jeans or a southwest
style skirt and jacket. A two-inch heal
adds appeal; easy and comfortable.
In the September issue we
featured a new piece called the Shoul and I have been
wearing and experimenting with mine all month. Easy and
versatile as a drape over the shoulders, tied to the
side on the shoulders, or even tied on the side of the
hip over your favorite skirt or jeans.
The nice thing about
southwest style is that we are not governed completely
by, nor at the mercy of, the larger opinions of the
fashion world; however, it is good to keep up, see
what's new, and if we find something that works for us,
add it to our wardrobe.
For review this month, I
have checked into an "Outlaw Country" trend posted at
Elle with some unique combinations though I don’t see
getting around the square in Santa Fe or up a hill in
Sedona in these outfits, still they could be fun or
perhaps offer a piece to take away and add to your own
southwest style. These are online at
http://www.elle.com/Fashion/Fashion-Spotlight/Outlaw-Country
Additionally the new fall
designs from Sheryl Crow’s BootHeel Trading Company are
out at Dillards. I especially liked the vests and
jackets, perfect for our agenda out here. Faux suede and
leather, just right for fall in earthy tones with prices
that won’t hurt. These are online
at

In our own backyard, we
have some very exciting pieces this month. The
Scottsdale Fashion Week 2009 is featured and runs
November 5 - 7. An exciting event packed full of shows,
designers, and new fashions. We also have a lovely
spread on jewelry designs by Rocki Gorman. Elaborate,
earthy, southwestern in all their glory, these pieces
are incredible. We have the latest on the opening of the
new Barneys in Scottsdale as well as a spectacular list
of some of the best shopping stops in Texas. We have a
new monthly column with Angela Johnson (of Angela
Johnson Designs in Scottsdale) coming in featuring
Arizona’s top fashion designers. A Santa Fe getaway,
dining on crabs in the desert with Eddie V’s and the
Wildfish Seafood Grille, artists, events and much more.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy this
month’s issue of Southwest Flair.
