In the Closet - Taking a look at great pieces
you may already have

Putting together a wardrobe with some southwest flair
may be easier than you think. It is not necessary to run
out and buy all new pieces, that’s not what it’s all
about.
Think earthy, worn, artistic, comfortable, colorful,
ethnic, casual, flowing.
For textiles and materials think denim, khaki,
cotton, rayon, wool, sheepskin, leathers and suede (faux
is good too), hemp.
For decorative motifs think beadwork, fringe, fabric
paints, patches, embroidery.
For patterns think Native American weaves and symbols
like spirals and horses, western themes.
For accessories think Concho belts, boots, silver
jewelry, wide cuffed bracelets, anything turquoise or
coral, roomy leather bags or totes in artistic prints.
Now with these thoughts in mind, go to your closet
and rummage, all the way to the back, there may be
possibilities lurking unseen that you have forgotten
about. Many pieces can be "converted" easily by cutting
fringe into hems or sleeves, sewing on beads, ripping
out hems and going for the natural "fringe," painting on
designs.
Some staples that can be worn as they are or
converted into attractive southwest pieces include:
Blue-jean jackets
Blue-Jeans
Plain Ts
Plain canvas totes or backpack
Now moving on to complete the first ensemble:
 |
Pick a skirt in an earthy tone or denim, preferably between
mid-calf to ankle length. Add a top in a lighter shade.
Belt over blouse with a wide faux or leather belt.
Top with a blazer. Complete the look with boots, bag, and a silver
necklace. |
Please join us each month to see "what’s in the
closet,"
Put your favorite southwest pieces into a great look
and send them in. You could be featured in an upcoming
edition of In the Closet.
