Stefan Mann Introduces New Collection by Artist Laurel Burch
Showcasing handbags, wallets and scarves

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz ---Stefan Mann boutique launches a new line of merchandise by artist, Laurel Burch (1945-2007). Offering handbags, wallets and scarves artistically designed with cats, dogs or horses, Burch’s products range in price from $10-$35.00. Totes and handbags aptly named “A Bunch of Love,” “Canine Clan,” “Cascading Horses,” and “Dog & Doggies,” among others, Burch’s work showcases her adoration for animals through different colors and textures.

Laurel Burch did not always have it easy. At the young age of 14, she was homeless and became an artist in San Francisco to make ends meet. She began by creating jewelry from old coins, bones, and beads. Wearing them gave her a sense of belonging, if only to an exotic world of her own making. Her creations became bridges to friendships and patrons. Through trading, selling, and giving them away, these artifacts found their way into the lives of people all across the country, and the phenomenon of collecting Laurel Burch began.

Laurel was a self-taught painter. She saw herself as a folk artist, telling stories. “In our fast-paced, changing world,” she said, “we need symbols that are a reminder of the ongoing world of the spirit.” Laurel was always incredibly prolific. Even during her long periods of convalescence, when she was forced to paint from a bed or wheelchair as a result of her rare bone disease, she seldom put her brushes down. Laurel said, “I refuse to have anything in my life that I can’t turn around into something magical and beautiful. I just refuse.”
