Heart Releases New Album - Red Velvet Car - Tour includes Southwest Performances in Texas and Nevada, 2010

Heart - Ann & Nancy Wilson in the studio

Los Angeles, California, With Heart’s August 31st release of their first new studio album in six years, Red Velvet Car, Heart is seeing success on the road and at radio with their singles “WTF” and “Hey You” seeing increased airplay on AC, AAA and Classic Rock stations across the country.

“The barracudas are back and at the top of their game.” (Rolling Stone, September 2, 2010)

“Aggressive, Delicate and Enduring” (New York Times, August 4, 2010)

Album cover - Red Velvet Car

"Red Velvet Car, released by Sony Music’s Legacy Recordings, boasts an evolved sound that doesn't pander to the iPod generation. The women of Heart have strong stories to tell through the music.” (The Virginian-Pilot, August 13, 2010)

Like all Heart albums, Red Velvet Car rocks hard but also has a deep acoustic side. Nancy Wilson has long been known to play her acoustic guitar with rock ferocity. This time an abundance of resonant acoustic instruments (guitars, mandolin, dobro, banjo, fiddle, viola, cello, and autoharp), played by Nancy Wilson and the album’s producer, Ben Mink, are showcased in Heart’s unique style. Nine of the album's songs were written for, and appear for the first time on Red Velvet Car. The album's closer, "Sand," is a newly recorded version of a song originally written and recorded by the Lovemongers, Ann and Nancy's 1990's acoustic side project. The release of Red Velvet Car heralds Legacy's forthcoming reissues of the classic Heart catalog in new physical and digital editions.

Ann & Nancy Wilson

Ann Wilson and her younger sister, Nancy Wilson, first showed the world that women can rock when their band Heart stormed the charts in the '70s with hits like "Crazy on You," "Magic Man," "Barracuda," ‘Straight On," "Even It Up," "Kick It Out" and so many more. Not only did the Wilson sisters lead the band, they wrote the songs, and played the instruments too, making them the first women in rock to do so. Heart continued topping the charts through the ‘80s and into the ‘90s with huge hits like "These Dreams," "Alone," "What About Love," "If Looks Could Kill," "Never," and a string of other hits that showcased the sisters’ enormous talents as both musicians and singers. Along the way, Heart sold more than 30 million records, had 21 top 40 hits, sold out arenas worldwide, and had a profound influence on rock music.

Editor's Note:

From the very first moment I heard Heart in, oh probably the fall of '76, cruising around before school and my girlfriend says, "You have to hear this tape," (and I'm pretty sure it was an 8-track, haha and it was Dreamboat Annie), I was transported somewhere new, to somewhere that moments before had not existed within my world, as likely were many young female rock fans of the era.  I can say that there has been a Heart song representative of many of the important periods, phases and milestones of my life.  As our generation stands now at the threshold of yet a new phase in life, it is comforting to know that Ann and Nancy are still there, committed to accompanying us on this mystical feminine journey.

In review of the new Heart album, Red Velvet Car, we find a strong return from Heart.  Given the time, space and (consumer) age between albums, as well as a generational slide to the quick and the marketable, Heart returns to us in full swing, as professional and as moving as ever.

Red Velvet Car contains a little something for everyone from the hard-rocking traditional sound that is Heart, to a bluesy sound, to the softer side both Wilson's bring to their songwriting and performance, with Sand being at the top of the list.  Touching, eloquent and heart-felt (no pun intended), reflections run deep as does the wisdom of life's experience.  We've come this far with them, and we cherish the opportunity to continue on as they offer inspiration for us all.

Be sure to catch them on one of their Southwest tour dates.
