September Greetings, it's fall at last!
Hello and welcome to Southwest Flair. This was a fun and
exciting issue to work on and it just kept growing!
In the larger scope of
fashion, it's fall and the newest, hottest, hippest
clothes are out in New York and elsewhere but we have to
ask the question---what's in it for us? Most of us
live in the real world and ours is in the southwest.
What works on Park Avenue doesn't work here. But
what does? Is there anything to offer that can
stand up to our eclectic tastes and nature? Of
course though there are all of those new shoes
and what does it matter that I have nowhere to
wear them, that I would break my neck hobbling round the
square in Santa Fe . . . hey I've been looking at a lot
of fashions to bring you what works and what doesn't but
I only have so much willpower . . .
Anyway though furs seem
to be real in, so depending on your stance there,
you may want to drag what you have out of moth balls and
see what you can do to re-vamp, revitalize and give some
new style to. Designers and boutiques sporting fur
this season are Chanel, 7 for All Mankind, Donna Karan,
Oscar de La Renta, Michael Kors and DKNY to mention a
few. Otherwise you may want to seek out the next
best thing in furs---faux. Feathers seem to be in
and that works well for us with our multi-cultural
designs and styles.
Name designers who gained
our attention for fall looks that can work for the
southwest are Chanel, boots from DVF, Etro,
Bebe for boots, feathers and ponchos, and in our humble
opinion, the Best for Fall Real Look Collection
goes to designs by Tommy Hilfiger with sweaters,
scarves, boots and bags in traditional fall textures and
colors.
Lots going on in the
fashion world this month for the southwest as well.
We've got a girlfriend fashion getaway in Scottsdale,
Scottsdale's Fashion Week's theme this year, Art as
Fashion. Back to Fashion School offers an inside
look at the fashion program at Santa Fe's Community
College as well as some of its top designers, an
Extravaganza for Fashionistas, and Fashion for a Passion
2010 which is an upcoming show in Dallas featuring
emerging Asian-American designers, a feature you won't
want to miss. And to add to the fun, we have
prepared a complete listing of Fashion's Night Out,
September 10th, participating designers and retailers
all over the Southwest for your shopping convenience,
from Dallas to Phoenix, and lots of places in between.
Kindly contributed by some of the busiest people we
know, we have a "must" list for fall from our very own
southwest designers and stylists bringing the latest to
you in fashions and hair care. Extending the
Runway is a feature on the upcoming exhibit at Phoenix
Art Museum, celebrating the Unique Style of
International Top Model and Fashion Visionary Tatiana
Sorokko, with a collection of more than sixty garments
and accessories from Sorokko’s extraordinary couture
wardrobe. The Phoenix Art Museum will also host,
It's in the Bag, an auction of designer handbags coming
up September 24 with exclusive fashions by designer Jose
Trifilio and a preview of his Spring 2011 collection.
Should be a fun-filled fashion evening. And as
always we bring you a featured Arizona designer.
We've put together a
lovely new fall makeup look from our southwest palette
of colors so be sure to check out that article under
health and beauty this month. And speaking of
beauty, or beauties, we're doing a special profile on
Gail E. McCauley, Arizona Model and Actor Management,
showcasing her and her top talent.
Ready to travel?
How about spas in Arizona ? Colorado Splendor?
Taos Mountain Music Festival, Jazz Aspen, Michael Martin
Murphey performing during Color Las Cruces, gosh, too
many to name but check the table of contents and the
arts & events calendar and you're sure to find something
to get you out and about in celebration of this glorious
fall.
And in addition to the
highlights above, cuisine, yoga and much more make this
one of our most exciting issues yet so thanks for
stopping by. Embrace and enjoy the fall!
