Michael Martin Murphey to Perform at Color Las Cruces


August 17, 2010 – Michael Martin Murphey, “the man who wrote and sang ‘Wildfire’” will perform on Saturday, September 11th at the Rio Grande Theatre as part of the Color Las Cruces Plein Air Art Festival sponsored by the Doña Ana Arts Council. Michael Martin Murphey, “singing cowboy poet”, is not only the number one, best-selling singer/ songwriter of American Cowboy Music, he's one of the world's most respected singer/ songwriters in the Pop and Country-Western field.

Martin’s other hits include “What’s Forever For”, “Cowboy Logic”, “A Long Line of Love”, “Carolina In The Pines,” and “I’m Gonna Miss You Girl”. (www.michaelmartinmurphey.com)

Murphey’s performance is slated as the highlight of the Color Las Cruces VIP Artist Reception, being held to raise funds for the Council’s Career Art Path program for children. Six local businesses, including A Catered Affair, The Big Chair, De La Vega’s, La Iguana, La Posta, and Lorenzo’s Pan Am, will offer delicious food and dessert samples during the reception with a wine bar hosted by St. Clair Winery and a beer bar hosted by Doña Ana Arts Council. Attendees can meet the competing artists, and award winners will be announced. Tickets are available for $40 each, $70 per couple, $34 Military. The reception begins at 6:00pm, Saturday, September 11th at the Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St.


Color Las Cruces continues on Sunday, September 12th with a Gallery Hop. The public is invited to go to participating galleries to see their exciting, new exhibits and the results of the Plein Air contest, with all artists in attendance. Participating galleries include (University) Cutter Gallery, Connie Hines Interior Design Studio, (Mesilla) Julienne Jewelry, Los Artesanos, SumArt, (Downtown) Justus Wright Galeria, M. Phillips Fine Art Gallery, El Paso Electric Gallery in the Rio Grande Theatre, and (Mesquite District) Napolitos Gallery, Unsettled Gallery, The Mesquite Art Gallery. The Gallery Hop is from noon until 4pm and is free of charge. Programs and maps will be available at each gallery.


Color Las Cruces is sponsored in part by the City of Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, The New Mexico Tourism Department, Frame and Art Center, and Pepsi.
