In the Closet

What's in the closet this month to create a southwest look?

Creating a southwest look is not, nor does not, have to be about running out and buying this and buying that to have a new southwest outfit.  Southwest style, clothes with a southwest flair, are sometimes hanging unsuspected, undetected, right in the closet, or a relative's closet, or a friend's closet.

This month we raided Grandma's closet and came up with a winner: a vintage Mexican poncho.  This is an item that has not seen the light in decades but its perfect for our agenda!  "By all means," she says, "I'll never wear that old thing."  We have her blessing and the poncho is ours!

To create our look, we began with a beige cowl mohair sweater (picked up at the local consignment store at a steal).  Add the poncho, then back to our closet for a belt that is black leather with a pewter buckle.  Top  it off with several layers of necklaces reflecting the colors in the poncho and viola!  Pair with jeans and boots or heels and you're set.

Have a favorite southwest outfit that you have put together?  Send in your "southwest" look and it could be featured In the Closet.
