Just Paint: A one person show by Melinda K. Hall Opens 8/05/11

Santa Fe, NM - Just Paint: A one person show by Melinda K. Hall is the artist’s first show at the Meyer East Gallery. In this solo exhibition Hall presents twenty new works from her studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The Meyer East Gallery will present this show at an opening reception for the artist on Friday August 5th, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at 225 Canyon Road, Santa Fe, NM 87501. The show will remain open thru Friday August 19th, 2011.

“Someone once asked who had given me permission to paint the way I do. I thought that was a wonderful question because in it was the implication that the work was somehow outside of some set of rules to which a painter had to comply. Painting is not a matter of rules, rather it is an arena of freedom and creative liberty where no permission is required–that is, if one paints authentically,” explains Hall.

“My style evolved in the struggle of push and pull between artist and canvas, in the space of my own private, quirky, little battleground of observation, interpretation, intention and application. What has resulted is a visual journal, a commentary on many universal subjects. As paint and brushes are my tools so are humor, metaphor, playfulness, color and text. I want the work to be initially accessible. I like to draw the viewer into the environment of the painting, invite them to stay a while and there discover more subtle aspects of the work,” states Hall.

Melinda K. Hall has been chosen as the featured artist of the 21st Annual Santa Fe Wine and Chile Fiesta. Other artists that have received this honor include Ramona Sakiestewa, Ford Ruthling, Doug Coffir, Ted Rose, Susan Contreras, Fredrico Vigil, Elias Rivera, Nadine Gurule, Roger Williams and most recently, Georgia O’Keeffe.

Melinda created and donated an original oil painting of event-related art titled “Dionysus” which measures 46”hx46”w. “Dionysus” will be featured on the official event poster, the program guide cover, featured t-shirt, wine label, and all advertising and other promotion items associated with the 21st annual Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta. The events are scheduled from September 21-25th, 2011.

Additionally, the original oil painting donated to the event by Hall will be sold at a live auction with the proceeds to benefit culinary programs like Cooking with Kids. Just Paint by Melinda K. Hall will be open at the Meyer East Gallery from Friday August 8th, 2011 thru Friday August 19th, 2011.
