Lush lilacs
tumbling over the soft glow of an adobe wall serve as the
symbol for the 2007 Taos Spring Arts Celebration. “Lilac
Time” is the creation of world renowned artist Nancy St.
Lawrence and the image will become the poster advertising
and commemorating the Spring Arts Celebration that runs the
entire month of May 2007.
The image
was selected from a variety of artist submissions that were
viewed and considered by a committee formed through the Taos
Gallery Association. “Tapping into the expertise, history
and depth in the Taos art community through the TGA, we’ve
been given a beautiful image for this year’s celebration,”
says Taos Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Gayle
Martinez. “I expect many people will want to add to their
collection of Spring Arts posters and Nancy St. Lawrence
works by owning the resulting piece.”
Nancy St.
Lawrence has been capturing the allure of Taos in original
pastels and oils for more than two decades now. Though
she studied the basics of painting at the Boston Museum of
Fine Arts and the Vesper George School of Art, Nancy
considers herself self-taught in the mediums of watercolors,
pastels and oils.
Young Nancy
spent summers working in the art colony at Provincetown,
Massachusetts, went on to become a founder member of the Art
Guild of the Kennebunks and now counts her collectors from
around the world at more than 2000 strong. Her current work
is on display at Grimshaw Fine Art – an established gallery
featuring fine art for everyone, located at 132 Kit Carson
Road, Taos, N.M. 87571 505.758.4949 * 800.638.5169,
Taos, New Mexico and the Wright Gallery on Cape Porpoise,
Maine.
“Lilac
Time” the original will remain on display at the Taos
Visitor Center from now through the Spring Arts
Celebration. Posters showing “Lilac Time” will be offered
for sale through the Taos Chamber of Commerce/Visitor Center
beginning in April.
