Most impactful is the team of craftsmen who have worked
with Southwest Spanish Craftsmen. In the 1940’s Eliseo
Rodriguez was the shop’s chief carver. His work was placed
in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian and honored
as a national treasure by the museum in 1992. One of the
shop’s original blacksmiths was Victor J. Vera. In his youth
Vera served as the gunsmith for Pancho Villa, the Mexican
revolutionary general. Today craftsmen under our employ have
over 25 years in the shop. An inherited trade, generations
of craftsmen have built furniture for Southwest Spanish
Craftsmen.
The design and building is done with time proven old world methods.
Mortise and tenon joinery is the standard. Planeing,
carving, fitting and finishing are still done manually, as
was done by the areas first carpinteros centuries ago. Each
piece is hand crafted – extraordinary in today’s world – and
the results are beyond comparison! New designs are always in
the works, using old world craftsmanship to create custom
furniture and doors with today’s functionality, style and
sense of proportion. |

Some of the celebrities who have purchased furniture in the past
include Lucille Ball, Gene Autrey and the Von Trapp family, depicted
in the classic film, The Sound of Music. More recently, the store
has made furniture for Randy Travis and Jane Fonda among others.
Join them in celebrating their 80th year as they unveil their newest
designs. Southwest Spanish Craftsmen
