Located just seventy miles west of Austin, the Texas Hill Country town of Fredericksburg is a must for any weekend getaway, especially during the month of October with Oktoberfest and Texas foliage, it is the setting for a memorable weekend.

Founded in 1846 by Baron Otfried Hans von Meusebach, new Commissioner General of the "Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas", also known as the "Noblemen's Society," and named in honor of a Prussian nobleman, Fredericksburg, though settled by mostly Germans, has now become a haven for anyone seeking the simpler side of a country getaway.

With over 300 bed & breakfasts, Sunday houses and other accommodations, Fredericksburg has much to offer the weekender looking for the unique while relaxing in a rural environment. For instance, 2 Wee Cottages Bed and Breakfast features two independent cottages in a beautiful, quiet setting. Each has its own hot-tub, luxury bedding, antiques, full kitchen and the cottages are designed for romance and privacy, making the perfect honeymoon cottages. The Town Creek Bed and Breakfast is a gracious country estate style house with six secluded luxury suites. The house is located only three blocks from Markt Platz. Rooms boast king or queen beds, and all have private entrances and baths. The house serves a full gourmet breakfast sure to please. For a real unusual experience, why not stay at the 1894 Private Pullman Palace Car, once the private rail car of Texas Cattle Baron Samuel Burke Burnett, who in 1905 hosted President Theodore Roosevelt on a wolf hunt. The Back Forty of Fredericksburg is in a serene, historic setting just a half mile from town and offers a pool and spa, lake and fishing.

Fredericksburg is a favorite for specialty shoppers and antiquing.   With over 150 shops, galleries, boutiques and emporiums, shopping remains one of the primary reasons visitors come to Fredericksburg. Many of the shops are concentrated on or near Main Street.  Country stores, bed and bath, vintage linens and kitchen aids, home decor, lovely candles; Fredericksburg shops have anything your country heart desires.

October is an exciting month for events in Fredericksburg starting October 5th with Oktoberfest. Fredericksburg celebrates its German heritage through food, music and arts and crafts. It is a community event of family entertainment featuring two stages and two tents with continuous oompah music, art & crafts, Children's fun area ~ Kinder Park, a German Bier Tent, and Oktoberfest Vineyard area, plus delicious food and drink all weekend long.

Other October events include Hill Country Marching Festival, Volkssport Verein 10K Walk/Swim, St. Joseph’s Halle Craft Show, the United Methodist Church Women’s Bazaar, a Parade of Homes, the Hill Country Ranch Rodeo, the Knap-in-Lithic Arts Festival, the Mesquite Art Festival, Stonewall VFD Fish Fry, the Harvest Classic & European Motorcycle Rally (Luckenbach), South Central BMW Owners Reunion, Trade Days, a Fall Dance Fest, Monarch Butterfly Celebration, Food & Wine Festival, the Dr. Pepper Open Classic Tennis Tournament,
