Pikes Peak area’s Holden House 1902 Bed & Breakfast Inn
welcomes guests “Home for the Holidays”
 |
The scents and
pleasures of the Christmas season are nearly
upon us. Cinnamon sticks, hot cider, gingerbread
houses…each brings fond thoughts of the season.
This is a special time to offer home-spun
hospitality to guests. And, it’s hard to believe
that for the 21st season, Holden House will once
again host guests during the holidays. |
A visit to Holden House
is a step back in time and a unique opportunity to
glimpse inside this landmark property, combining a sense
of history and a worthwhile holiday visit. Innkeepers
Sallie and Welling Clark each year adorn the inn with
handmade and unique decorations with a Victorian flair,
sure to bring visions of sugar plums dancing in your
heads and a restful night’s sleep. Memories of past
holidays awaken anew each year to help them plan and
celebrate with special traditions. A stay at Holden
House 1902 is a tradition that many a family and friend
continue to count on to start the Christmas Season!
Located on the historic old Westside of Colorado
Springs, Holden House was built in 1902 by Isabel
Holden, widow of a wealthy Colorado Springs businessman.
The Holden House 1902 Bed & Breakfast Inn opened in 1986
as the first Westside B&B and is the oldest in our
community operated by long-time innkeepers Welling and
Sallie Clark. As one of the area’s Victorian showpieces
with two homes and original carriage house, the inn has
received many accolades and awards for historic
preservation, restoration and guest service. Holden
House has been named as one of the best places for a
Honeymoon and Anniversary and has been featured in many
publications including Glamour magazine, AAA Encompass
and Colorado Homes and Lifestyles, just to name a few.
This stately Victorian is a wonderful example of turn of
the century charm, boasting Queen Anne Victorian details
combined with Colonial Revival touches. The grand
wrap-around porch is adorned with garlands, velvet bows
and tiny white lights. Decorated in traditional
Victorian Christmas style, this beautiful home glows
with seasonal hospitality. Each of Holden House’ luxury
suites in three homes boast holiday touches and five
Christmas trees, each with their own individual style.

The Clark’s are proud to
display their long-time nutcracker collection on the
mantle in the main parlor, and locally made Simpich
dolls are sprinkled throughout. You’ll enjoy a variety
of seasonal décor including a nutcracker tree in the
Cripple Creek suite to the white fir tree adorned with
porcelain dolls and ivy in the Aspen suite or the
Independence suite’s burgundy and gold tree, each has
its own uniqueness. And, adding a bit of whimsy, guests
might be surprised by the upstairs hallway where a
non-traditional tree arises in a sci-fi style.
 |
The Victorian
period brought forth in Colorado a style of
houses that are still loved today. Victorian
architecture, gingerbread and the varied &
unique colors they are painted have many still
referring to these homes as "Painted Ladies."
Victorians enjoyed extravagant entertaining and
meals consisting of as many as nine courses.
Although the extravagance of this past Victorian
Era is gone, these cluster-inn homes are now
happy to play host to the many who enter for a
unique bed and breakfast experience. |
|
A nice touch to
Holden House is that innkeepers Sallie and
Welling Clark take so much pride in the their
Christmas décor, a virtual holiday tour is on
the inn’s website to give you an inside look at
the magnificent decorations. You won’t find a
nook or cranny missing a seasonal touch at this
award-winning inn.
