What’s in Style for 2012? Your Style
This month's cover photo - winter outfit with fur and glasses, uniquely stylish
Southwest lifestyle is about not following the rules sometimes. Full of renegades and outlaws from early on, those who live in the Southwest like to do things their own way and fashion is no exception. And whether you live in Phoenix or even Buffalo, New York, fashion is about your style; making it your own, making it unique, making it work for you, not the other way around.
Regardless of what is happening on the runways, in the showrooms, on the retail floor or in the celebrity columns, when you add an item to your wardrobe it should be because it is complementary to your style. Fads are in and out quick as a drop of the hat. Fashion is what’s in vogue at the moment but style is unique and all your own. Style is expressive of who you are. Fad and fashion are expressive, in part, of what the industry wants to sell this year. They are also an artistic expression of the designer who created them and not always practical for regular wear or suitable for all tastes. But these ideas are out there in place to add to and to assist you in selecting what works for you. Make the fashion world work for you rather than conforming to it and in this way you will add a little southwest flair to your style because individuality is what makes up our fashion world.
If you see a piece that you want to add to your wardrobe and you can’t live without it, then it is probably because it is suitable for your own style. If you are unsure but get it anyway, chances are it’s never going to work right and it is going to hang in the closet. If you get it because your best friend has it or such and such celebrity is wearing it then chances are it is not expressive of your own special style. Finding your fashion way sometimes requires some trial and error and mistakes can be costly. But knowing who you are, knowing your own special tastes and staying true to yourself is the key in finding your way.
Free up your inner style-guru and find small ways to begin expressing your own fashionable tastes into your everyday wardrobe. You may be surprised at the compliments you receive and who knows, you may just become the trend-setter. Be who you are. Show your own style and be in style for 2012.
