Joie De Vivre Opens Saguaro's Doors in Scottsdale

Known for its fun and whimsical boutique hotels, San Francisco-based
Joie de Vivre Hotels introduces its first property outside the state of
California in Scottsdale.
Open this November 2011, after a multi-million facelift, The Saguaro
will showcase the colorful, vibrant spirit of the Southwest throughout
the 195-room property. Known most recently as the Hotel Theodore (and
Mondrian Scottsdale before that), this downtown property is situated on
Drinkwater Boulevard, named for Scottsdale's former mayor, Herb
Drinkwater, who played a large role in transforming the city into the
resort destination it is today. Located in the heart of Old Town
Scottsdale, within a thriving cultural hub that includes the Scottsdale
Center for the Performing Arts, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary
Art and numerous art galleries,
guests can look forward to meeting space, a spa and restaurant on
property, and with its prime location in the heart of Old Town,
Scottsdale's delectable dining, buzzing arts scene, luxurious shopping,
and nightlife and entertainment options are only a short walk away.

The colorful, vibrant character of the Southwest is reflected in The
Saguaro, Joie de Vivre's first hotel property outside of California. The
Saguaro's 194 guest rooms channel the palette of the indigenous
wildflowers of Arizona. The bold Southwestern hues are the work of
renowned architects Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat, of New York-based
Stamberg Aferiat Architecture, whose design connects six wings of guest
rooms, a reception pavilion, the Distrito restaurant run by celebrity
chef Jose Garces, and the intimate Saguaro Spa, which offers services
such as massage, body scrubs and yoga.
Whether venturing out to the nearby world-class golf courses, exploring
the hiking trails of Camelback Mountain, or experiencing the exciting
nightlife and culture of Old Town Scottsdale, The Saguaro is the perfect
retreat – a thoughtful desert oasis where guests can relax with all of
the comforts and sophistication of a boutique hotel.

STAMBERG AFERIAT ARCHITECTURE
Stamberg Aferiat Architecture is a New York-based studio with a broad
portfolio of schools, museums, galleries, showrooms and private houses.
Mixing the crisp steel-framed aesthetic of high American Modernism with
color inspired by Matisse and Hockney, Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat
have carved an individualistic niche in contemporary American design.
They have long felt that the disappearance of color is a great loss to
the built environment, with color bringing emotional resonance to
people’s lives. For this reason, Stamberg Aferiat have brought the
colors of native wildflowers to The Saguaro and designed the hotel
around the color and light of the surrounding landscape, making the
space, inside and out, a joyful place to be. www.stambergaferiat.com
