(Southwestern, NM) Labor Day is a big weekend in Silver City and the surrounding areas.

There are lots of events that take place for the 3-day weekend.

2007 Hatch Chile Festival - Hatch, New Mexico
September 1 - 2  starting at 10:00 a.m.
Get your fresh green and red chile fix!
Events include a chile cook-off, chile roasting, a parade culminating with the coronation of a Chile Queen, chile pod competition, carnival rides and fiddling contests.

Silver City 24th Annual Gem & Mineral Show
September 1 - 3 
Saturday 10 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m
Monday (Labor Day) 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
FREE ADMISSION Featuring over 40 dealers from southwestern New Mexico‚ Mexico‚ and around the world. Local minerals‚ findings‚ hand crafted jewelry‚ precious stones‚ rough cutting materials‚ equipment‚ books and magazines‚ Wheel of Fortune. There will be demonstrations with a special exhibit by the New Mexico Bureau of Mines - local field trips each day - silent auction every 30 minutes.

New Mexico Wine Harvest Festival
September 1 - 3   
12 noon - 6 pm each day
Celebrate New Mexico's wine harvest with grape stomping, wine tasting, live entertainment (including up and coming country music star Tim Murphy on Sunday). Festival features arts and crafts vendors, children's activities, hourly wine seminars and a great relaxed atmosphere. Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds, 11 miles west on I-10 exit 132. $13 adults 21 and older, under 21 free but must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. $3 discount for active duty military on Monday.  http://www.wineharvestfestival.com/ for more info.

The FINAL Hillsboro Apple Festival
September 1 - 3

This is the last year for holding the 3-day event in Hillsboro , New Mexico.  Just an hour away from Silver City, the drive over the Black Range mountains is wonderful in-and-of-itself!!! Located only an hour north of Las Cruces, Hillsboro is famous for apples. Sample everything from world class apple pie to apple juice, caramel apples and much more.
