Women’s Writing Retreat
with Maureen Murdock
September 21 – 23, 2007
Briar Patch Inn, Sedona, Arizona |
 |
Join Maureen Murdock –
bestselling author of The Heroine's Journey: Woman's
Quest for Wholeness – for a women’s weekend memoir
writing retreat in spectacular Sedona, Arizona.
The weekend will provide a retreat for the body, mind
and soul. Held at the Briar Patch Inn, a magical oasis
nestled along the banks of Oak Creek just minutes north
of Sedona, you’ll find a nurturing place of quiet, a
place to expand both your mind and your soul.
Under Maureen’s experienced guidance, you will examine
how the memories you tell establish your sense of self.
That it is not the factual truth of our memories that is
necessary for crafting them into memoir but the
emotional truth of our experience that begins to reveal
the underlying patterns of our lives. In this retreat
you will look at the basic components of memoir writing
and the self-reflection required to craft a memory into
a written memoir that has universal appeal. You will
read work by published memoirists, do in-class writing
exercises, and have in-class critiques.
Maureen is the bestselling author of The Heroine's
Journey: Woman's Quest for Wholeness; The Heroine's
Journey Workbook; Fathers' Daughters; Spinning Inward:
Using Guided Imagery with Children and is the editor of
an anthology of memoirs written by her writing students
entitled Monday Morning Memoirs: Women in the Second
Half of Life. Maureen’s research on myth and memoir
culminated in her most recent book, Unreliable Truth: On
Memoir and Memory. She teaches memoir privately in San
Francisco, in the UCLA Extension Writers' Program and at
